Its not that you didnt try to smell nice, but maybe you got a little too enthusiastic during the application phase. Youre not alone. USA Today reported that teachers in schools across the country are requesting that boys refrain from using body sprays. The new crop of sprays make it impossible to breathe effectively within 50 feet of the wearer. Heres a guide to common scents. Those that are way too common (and make women gag) and a few good picks that rarely go wrong. Bad, bad scents:
Axe. Axe itnuff said. Aqua Velva. Youre kidding, right? Old Spice. Ew. TAG. The ads are false, women will not chase you. They will run from you. Polo. Okay, but too much of a good thing may turn into a bad thing. Apply sparingly. Good picks:
Truth by Calvin Klein. Has a nice clean scent, not too perfume-y. Cool Water by Davidoff. Almost a cucumber-crisp scent, hardly overpowering. Indigo by Fred Hayman. This has real vanilla in it, so it has a more subtle musk than its cheaper knock offs. Halston 1-12. An oldie but a goodie. This scent is one the ladies still love. In general: Avoid colognes, sprays or aftershaves that are called Savage, Lush, Bull or Diesel. Do not purchase any hygiene product with names that describe a car, truck or motor. Dont let your mom buy you anything from Avon--ever. Your Best Bet: Have a sister, a female relative or friend, whos your age (important cuz grannys nose is a little off) recommend something she likes. The secret--smell clean.
